During second year I experimented with two different themes: memory and presence. My first semester work took inspiration from personal photographs, of friends and family, and those who I could no longer remember. Photographs stop time; they document life by chronicling its progression, revealing the effect time has on everyone and everything.
Using photographs as reference, I created fragmented interpretations of a memory, that call to mind cubism. I like to play with shape and colour, and blur the boundaries of objects. This to me is representative of how memories are formed in our unconscious.
In my second semester I shifted my focus to materials – such as paper and various mediums. I played around with experimental painting and mark making techniques to create a sense of presence and place within my work.
